4G is the way to be!
Just when you start thinking that technology could not be better, comes an innovation that makes you eat your own words. No it is true! When we were young, land-lines were perceived as nothing less than a magician’s contraptions and people would line up outside phone booths to make calls. Then arrived mobiles that literally took over our world. Can you imagine a life without your mobile? Well, I can’t! Internet connection, especially 3G, transformed a mobile from phone to smartphone. The world shrunk on to a device in our hands, giving us the freedom to access almost anything and everything. Right when we thought this is it, Airtel launched 4G! By doing so, it has become…

Freaky Friday! The post-posting ordeal!
Yes,I am an army wife and therefore yes, many of my posts are related to things I face and experience as one…trust me, they are a lot. I sound perturbed? Well,I am! I just experienced what I call as a ‘Freaky Friday of Fauj!’ All you sisters-in-arms must have understood and are possibly shaking your head in sympathy while the ‘civilian'(the term is ridiculous) ones must be scratching their heads. Let me help you out though I am so irritated right now that your confusion is giving me sadistic pleasure. It is a common routine, common I say,not a rule, that postings are released on Fridays. Last Friday, my Mr.Army-man was…

Aaj kal ke bachhe- Generation Z!
Yes,I do get it! Times change and so does the world with it and it would sound just natural for the kids of today to be different from us. What is noteworthy here is that the process of evolution which supposedly takes millions of years to show an apparent effect seems to have accelerated manifolds over the past two decades thanks to technology! There is no generation gap between us and aaj kal ke bachhe…it is like we are worlds apart. The kids are not at fault,no. It is what the world has become today and we cannot hide our kids in a cocoon and shelter them from advancement…it even…

A Punjabi wedding play-list
Every time I think of the big, fat Punjabi weddings back home, I am drowned in nostalgia of lots of ‘Bhangra‘ music, an endless supply of ‘tandoori‘ chicken and the wide variety of alcohol that can put any liquor vendor to shame! Punjabis are loud, boastful people but extremely fun to be around and good at heart! ( Yes, I am a Punjabi and yes, I am shamelessly praising my kind!) Punjabi weddings are never quiet. From day 1 of the celebrations, temperaments run high throughout the day when the younger ones are scolded for not getting things right and the tent wala for his delay…the ladies are fretting over…

Baby skin care-as natural as first love!
There are innumerable memories I have of my daughter as a baby and the fondest ones include the daily massage and bath sessions. The daily regime was her favourite time of the day. My pediatrician told me to massage her daily and to do it myself. I did not immediately understand why she emphasised on MY doing it but acted on her advice, just because I happen to be a ‘paranoid’ mom who just can’t take any chances. I thought I would be a ‘cool’ mom but the tiny bundle I was handed over turned me into this unreasonably apprehensive, over-possessive caretaker who hoarded up a big stock of hand…

The natural way to baby-care!
Chemicals and babies don’t rhyme…well, literally as well as figuratively! A baby’s skin is much more sensitive and delicate than an adult’s. It is 20-30% thinner and is adjusting to a new environment of the outside world. Remember how our skin looks after a long bath? Imagine the one that was inside a liquid for nine months! Even the pH of a baby’s skin is slightly higher. Therefore, very specific care is required for a baby’s skin. Do not even think of using adult products for a baby. What works for you is not going to work for the baby! My experience! When we talk about babies, nothing works better…

Honey diet-a yummy way to stay fit!
The decline in physical activity and the lifestyle of today which is high on stress and low on health is leading to an increase in the problem of weight gain. Instead of resorting to a healthy routine, people want the quicker way out. There are so many programs that claim of ‘instant’ or ‘quick’ results that sound very alluring and it is very easy to fall prey to them. Even the results are evident soon but the benefits are way lesser than the long term damage these crash diets do to the body. Crash diets are an extreme way to lose weight by drastically reducing the quantity of food you…

Wife’s serial or your cricket? UC Cricket ends the tussle!
In India, cricket is not a sport. It is a religion with fanatic followers who live the game. Whenever a cricket series is on, you can see abandoned streets and malls. Nothing interests us more than watching our ‘gurus’ and ‘idols’ slash the bat through the air and strike a six. Every boundary is celebrated and every wicket lost mourned. The fever of cricket possesses our nation , especially the men with such intensity that they suffer amnesia during the period and give up on all worldly ties except cricket. Even a term has been coined for the bereaved better halves- ‘cricket widows’ who lose their husbands to cricket. There…

Celebrate childhood-Khuljaye bachpan!
When my bundle of joy arrived six years back, everyone thought it would be a walk in the park for me, given the fact that I am a medical doctor. Well, it wasn’t! Every day brought new experiences and new surprises shocks. When Baby S cried incessantly at night for no comprehensible reason, my husband looked at me with hopeful eyes but I had no clue. Feeding…check. Burping….check. Changing…check. Anti-colic…check. She was still crying, stopping only when rocked in lap! Concluding that something was wrong with either my child or me, I went to the Pediatrician with my husband. She laughed and said something that actually made sense. ‘Your baby…
