Culinary misadventures in Travel
Food is an important part of travel and culinary exploration is an essential part of my itinerary, wherever I go! I tend to become very courageous in my experiments with cuisines during travel and being a non-vegetarian helps. Although my stomach does not agree with too spicy or oily foods but I still try to taste the local cuisine and delicacies particular to the place I am visiting. The experiments lead to some amazing experiences and some not-so-sweet ones as well. Nevertheless, they form incredible memories! On one such travel to Andamans, I learnt a couple of interesting things: Be prepared to face the consequences of your experiment Beaches are synonymous…

Yet today, if I may I want to ask you to wow me again and I will tell you how Just hear me out and say yes, come on, take this vow! When I am running around in the morning, fixing breakfast Prancing a mad dance, between kitchen and kiddo’s room Before you shout out for your missing sock, pray wait! Just hold me tight and tell me everything’s alright. I know not how, but can you take this vow? When my work-life gets taxing and I feel low And managing both fronts…

Impact of paradigm shift- The rabbit-duck wars!
source Years ago, a man named Kuhn demonstrated the way in which one can can be made to see a thing as something entirely different, due to paradigm shift. History seems to be repeating itself. The impact of this paradigm shift manifests as rabbit-duck wars-the ones who see a rabbit refuse to acknowledge anyone who sees a duck and are willing to resort to any measure to prove the solitary existence of the rabbit! That doesn’t disprove the co-existence of the two animals in the picture but sure does prove that we no longer care about what the others’ perspective- we are too busy defending ours! One one hand, we…

Do looks really matter?
I vividly remember that when I was in second or third grade, I was parading around in the new skirt that my parents had bought me and even boasted of it in front of my neighbour, a girl who was about ten years elder to me. She gave a meek smile and said,’Wear whatever..there are not many years left. Then you will also be forced to wear salwar kameez.’ I was surprised at her words, for my cousins her age still wore skirts. I belong to a liberal and broad minded family and never faced gender discrimination or judgment at home but the world is not as considerate. When I…

Social media, communication & tolerance!
We were all very enthusiastic about the launch of social media. First Orkut and then Facebook made it incredibly easy to locate long-lost friends and re-invent the bond of friendship. It was amazing to be able to share pictures over the internet and be able to see what the little girl who studied with you once had turned into as a young woman or to what your cousin who lives in another country(and seldom visits) looks like. It was almost a revolution that converted a social platform into a million-dollar industry. The world was no longer too big to stay in touch! To add to the connectivity, came devices known…

The impact of unsaid words
‘Think twice before you speak’ ‘Actions speak louder than words’ ‘Words once spoken cannot be retrieved’ The list of quotes that advise on the careful selection of words is endless and we oft emphasise on the importance of weighing the effect of words before uttering them. Yet, as powerful as speech is, silence can be pretty strong too. The impact of unsaid words, can at times be deeper than that of the said ones. There are so many instances when we have the right answer to the question, the apt reply to a comment, the exact words that need to be spoken to calm down the situation, and yet we…

Fantastico Four- friendship beyond years!
It is said that the friendships we form in our childhood are the best ones. I guess whosoever said it never stayed in a hostel. According to me, the friendships you form in a hostel last a lifetime! At a time when you away from home, you form friendships with the people who actually click and because she sits next to you in class or goes in the van with you. And then, you spend 24 hours a day together. You share first crushes, heartaches, exam stress and what not. Nothing beats that! When I joined medical college, I never knew I would find myself such incredible friends. We were…
