The Gift
As the administrative head of a hospital,I get many invites to marriage functions and the like and often choose to ignore them. I know it sounds rude but it is just simple pure laziness and also something to do with the fact that I am not very comfortable in crowded areas, especially when the crowd comprises of half-drunk baraatis. But that is just me. I am a considerably social person but marriage parties are just not my thing. You get what I mean here, right? Anyways, going through the affairs of the day as usual at work, a housekeeping employee came to my office, hesitating as she entered. She held a paper and…

Whatever it takes to sail this boat…
Every problem in our country is inter-related, inter-connected to each other. The biggest out of all and probably the root of all others is illiteracy. India is the land of sages, it is a culture that promotes literature and ironically has the maximum load of illiteracy which is nearly 37 % of the global total. Effects of illiteracy Illiteracy has both social and economic ramifications: -Unemployment -Underemployment -Poverty -Ignorance -Low self-esteem…….to name a few. It is a dismal picture and before we talk of any other issue,it is imperative to remove illiteracy. Let me tell you a story… It is set in the city of Varanasi,on the banks of the…

The Walk
I recently started the evening walk ritual with a friend just to stay fit and ok yes, also for the daily dose of gossip we both share. We chose to walk the ‘the walking plaza’, a term every army-wife would understand. For the rest, let me explain-it is a stretch of road inside a cantonment, lined by picturesque trees which is closed to traffic for specific hours in the morning and evening for walking. Oh and yes, every lamp post has a speaker mounted on it and music plays during ‘walking hours’. Sounds amazing, right? The initial few days were spent trying to just complete the circuit, either one not willing to surrender. We…

Digital India-Dawn of a new era!
The world ‘e’ has brought a new meaning to so many different things…e-mail,e-book,e-commerce,e-business,e-banking… to name a few. Another such word that shall soon change the way public services will be delivered in India is e-governance! source In the past decade or so,India has made phenomenal advancements in every field. Now it is moving towards tranformation of itself into a digitally empowered knowledge economy i.e Digital India. Digital India is an initiative of the Government of India to integrate the Government of the nation with its people. Magically,it is in a way moving forward to realise the ideals of our erstwhile leaders- Government of the people, for the people and by the…

Stop judging! It is too easy.
What is it nowadays with judging everyone and everything? Has the nation suddenly gained enlightenment or stumbled upon the great wisdom? Earlier we saw allegations or accusations but now no more. We do not send anyone to trial…we simply judge. Why listen to the other person’s side of the story? Why waste time thinking of an explanation for whatever has happened? It is so much simpler and time saving to just go ahead and pass the verdict. The documentary India’s daughter was not even released when it was judged not fit for the Indian audience. Yes,it is not and I say this not because of the way the entire incident…

Melody
When raindrops fall on tin roofs, When softly rumbles the earth’s core, When rustles wind through dry leaves, It is melody when ripples strike the shore. When birds on a twig sing together, When whistles a train through forest grove, When a clock ticks in pure rhythm, It is melody when sings a heart in love.

Minors and adult (movie) stuff? A major issue.
A couple of days back,a friend asked me, ‘Do you write on parenting?’ When I replied in affirmation, she asked me to take up a very relevant topic that I found intriguing. ‘Kids and adult movies’ I decided to write on it but it soon it slipped out of my mind. A couple of days ago, when I went to watch a thriller certified A,thanks to the violence and abuses it was brimming with(don’t get any ideas)with a friend, the number of infants and toddlers I saw there had me staring in disbelief. I confirmed from my friend if we were in the wrong theatre, thanks to the screen number confusion in mutiplexes.…

Don’t forget to break the fast!
After every sunset comes a new sunriseā¦and breakfast! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and as a doctor,I can vouch for that. What you eat in the morning has a great influence on your physical and mental agility throughout the day. Why to have breakfast? 1) Breakfast restores the body’s energy and glucose stores after an overnight fast. 2) It lowers stress hormone and elevates mood. 3) It fires up the body’s metabolism…skipping breakfast makes you gain, not lose weight!(eye-opener) Despite being the most important one,it is the most neglected. No one has time in the morning… Kids are getting late for school…parents for work. My family very…

Optimism will take you far!
I always wanted to write…even when I was an eight year old reading Noddy by Enid Blyton! I graduated to Hardy Boys,Nancy Drew…then Agatha Christie and Sidney Sheldon…matured to reading classics and contemporary literature….the urge to write remained. Over the years, I wrote a little…random thoughts….a few poems…but till a year back,I was basically just procrastinating! I thought I would write when I had the time…a utopian dream when you are married, have a child and a full time job. My eldest brother loves writing too( and yes,I look up to my brothers a lot, which you must have made out by now if you have read my previous posts). In the…
