Ready to experience redi-Go!

Travel is the true way to experience life and road trips are the best mode of travel, at least according to me.

First of all, let me tell you that I am extremely fond of driving and secondly, I love big cars! So it might appear strange as to why I am posting anything about a car in the small hatchback segment. It is for the simple reason that the price tag on this one makes you want to explore further. With Rs. 2.5 lakhs as the starting price and the looks as you can see them, it is worth a test drive. Considering Datsun’s reputation, it might not be a surprise if they manage to further slash it down. Add to it the fuel efficiency that the company boasts of (claims to be the highest in the segment), this little wonder might actually be great for city driving.

After the price, the next thing that makes me want to take it out for a spin is the ground clearance of the vehicle. It is said to be 185 mm which is pretty neat for a car this size. No more problems in driving a hatchback on uneven, narrow city lanes. The ground clearance should also make it easy to get in and out of the car. I, for one, do not like low lying cars; they are extremely uncomfortable. It seems to combine the compactness of a hatchback and the ruggedness of a SUV. No doubt it is claimed to be ‘Fun. Freedom. Confidence. The ultimate Urban Cross – Datsun redi-GO – the capability of a crossover with the convenience of a hatchback’.

Third feature that entices is the interior of the car. A car in this segment is expected to be cramped up inside with little leg space. This one claims best-in-class rear space that offers legroom as well as head space. This I would love to check out. The dashboard and instrument panel looks pretty decent too. Tiny storage spaces like cup-holders, shelf on the passenger side, bottle-holder and cubby holes add to utility.

Given a choice, I would love to test drive the car in Goa for the beautiful city allows you to take the car for a drive on wide empty roads as well as narrow city lanes (and who doesn’t love beaches?). As I said, I am fond of big cars and the stability they offer. Therefore, I would want to test redi-Go for stability on the highway when the speed picks up. A wobbly, unstable car is a deal breaker. I also want to get the feel of the 54 hp 799 cc engine, the gearbox and the driving comfort of the vehicle due to these.

If the car is indeed what it promises to be, its compactness and small turning radius can actually be a boon to city driving and save the anguish of difficult maneuvering and parking in crowded areas. But, more on the car after I have actually taken a test drive…keep watching the space for more!

Till then, happy and safe driving!!
